
Kimo, a special teddy bear companion, therapeutic play aid and coping strategy for Cancer stricken children undergoing the process of intravenous Chemotherapy treatments.
The Kimo Bear Project, Inc. is a unique approach in aiding the child to better understand the diagnosis of Cancer and its effects. Kimo Bear is an educational, visual and therapeutic play aid in regards to the medical apparatus, procedures, medicines and treatments associated with Cancer, Kimo will offer comfort, support and be a partner throughout the intravenous Chemotherapy treatments. Through much research it has been proven that utilizing dolls simulating illnesses helps a child to act out their frustrations brought on by the disease. This type of behavioral stage becomes a positive force in fighting Cancer.
Kimo is made from materials typically found in stuffed bears. The legs and arms are fully rotational, enabling the bears’ positioning to be comparable to that of the child. The Kimo Bear is equipped with a catheter, which is attached to the chest. This allows a section of tubing to be attached to simulate intravenous treatment at the same time as the child. Kimo possesses the ability to lose its hair, mirroring the sometimes side affects of Anti-Cancer drugs. Kimo comes dressed in a hospital gown and baseball cap.
This companion is made to give a child a friend in the darkness, a friend to share the child's anxieties during the fight for life.
